Terms of Use
Last updated: July 27, 2026
1. The agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a contract between you and Sorcerer Inc. ("Sorcerer", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the Sorcerer desktop application for macOS (the "App") and of the Sorcerer portal at sorcerers.app (the "Portal"). By buying a license, activating the App, or signing in to the Portal, you agree to these Terms.
2. The product
Sorcerer is a local-first markdown editor. Your notes are stored as plain files on your own machine. The App runs offline and collects no telemetry. The Portal exists to deliver and manage your license: sign-in is passwordless, using a magic link sent to your email.
3. Your license
When you buy Sorcerer, we grant you a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the App, subject to these Terms:
- Lifetime. The license does not expire and does not renew. You pay once.
- Machine-bound. The license activates on one Mac at a time, bound to its hardware identifier.
- Transferable. You may move the license to a new machine yourself, through the Portal, when you replace your Mac.
- Personal. You may not share, resell, rent, or publicly post your license key, nor circumvent the activation mechanism.
4. Free trial
The App is free to use for 14 days, with no account and no card required. The trial exists so you can evaluate the App fully before paying — please use it.
5. Payment
Purchases are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as our merchant of record: it is the seller to you for payment purposes, handles applicable sales taxes (including VAT/GST), and issues your receipt. We never see or store your card details. Prices are listed in USD and charged once.
6. Fair use and revocation
We may revoke a license, without refund, if it is involved in fraud, a chargeback, key sharing or resale, or attempts to bypass activation. Licenses you have legitimately activated keep working on the machines where they are bound; revocation blocks future activations and transfers.
7. What Sorcerer refuses to do
The App contains no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no account requirement. It never phones home. This is a product commitment, and we intend these Terms to be read consistently with it.
8. Intellectual property
Sorcerer, the App, the Portal, and the Sorcerer name and artwork are the property of Sorcerer Inc. Your notes are plain markdown files on your disk: they are entirely yours, and we claim no rights over them.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The App and the Portal are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sorcerer Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of the App or the Portal. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your license (USD 24.99).
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always at sorcerers.app/terms, with the date of the last revision at the top. Continued use after a change means you accept the new Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence (such as Brazil's Consumer Protection Code) remain unaffected.
